Submitting a question
- Who can submit a question?
- Anyone with a genuine interest in the event may submit a question. No account or registration is required.
- How do I submit?
- Use the “Submit a question” page. Write your question (at least 12 characters), choose the theme it belongs to, and optionally add your name and city. You may submit anonymously.
- What happens after I submit?
- Your question enters a review queue with the event organizers. Once approved it is published on the Browse & vote page, where the public can support it. Questions that are duplicates, off-topic, or contain personal attacks are not published.
- Can I edit or withdraw a question?
- Questions cannot be edited after submission. If you need a correction, submit a revised version and note that it replaces an earlier one.
- Is there a deadline?
- Questions are accepted while the event is upcoming or live. Submitting early gives the public more time to vote for your question.
- Where can I read the official answers?
- Every response published by Republic of Kenya · Office of the President appears on the Answered page, most recent first, together with the original question and who asked it. Each answer is also recorded on the Progress timeline.
Voting
- How does voting work?
- Each approved question shows a vote button. One vote per question is recorded for each device or browser; you can change your mind by tapping again to withdraw your vote. No account is needed.
- Why does voting matter?
- Questions are ranked by votes. The most supported questions are prioritised for a response during and after the event.
- Can I vote on a question I submitted?
- Yes, once it has been approved and appears on the Browse & vote page.
- Why can't I see my question to vote on it?
- Pending questions are not public until reviewed. Check the Progress timeline to see how many are awaiting review.
Diaspora rights
- Do Kenyans abroad have the right to vote in Kenyan elections?
- Yes. The Constitution of Kenya (2010) guarantees the political rights of citizens, including those living abroad, and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) progressively registers diaspora voters at designated stations. Registration requirements and station locations are announced by the IEBC ahead of each election.
- Can I hold dual citizenship?
- Yes. Under Article 16 of the Constitution, a Kenyan citizen by birth does not lose citizenship by acquiring another nationality. Those who previously lost Kenyan citizenship may apply to regain it through the Department of Immigration.
- Can I own land in Kenya while living abroad?
- Kenyan citizens, including dual citizens, may own land in Kenya. Non-citizens may hold land only on leasehold terms of up to 99 years. Always verify title through the Ministry of Lands before purchasing.
- What consular support can I expect?
- Kenyan embassies and consulates issue passports, national ID applications, emergency travel documents, and civil registration services, and provide assistance to citizens in distress. Contact the Kenyan Consulate General in New York or the Embassy in Washington, D.C. for services in the United States.
- How are remittances treated?
- Remittances are not taxed as income when received by family members in Kenya. Diaspora investors are also eligible for products such as diaspora bonds and Sacco membership. Specific questions on financial services are welcome under the Remittances & Financial Services theme.
